What drives your interest in working on solar energy issues?
IBTS is more than just interested in solar energy, we are passionate about it! IBTS is an informed, trusted, third party advisor that merges our extensive expertise in solar panels and storage with our 40-year history of working in local municipal governance and building code standards. We are the largest provider of solar quality assurance inspection services in the United States, having performed over 70,000 nationally and 9,000 Puerto Rico alone. Our solar work, like all of our services, is driven by our nonprofit mission to strengthen communities.
What impact do you feel the SolSmart program and you as an Advisor will have on the communities with which you will work?
As an advisor, IBTS looks to help Puerto Rico’s municipalities increase confidence in solar while reducing their risk. Specifically, we will help municipal governments take action, demonstrating how they and their constituents can benefit from solar and the SolSmart program, and showing them not just what to do but how to do it.
What aspects of your work plan are you most excited about working on?
We are excited to create and deploy effective communications that resonate with the constituents of Puerto Rico’s municipalities, creating awareness, understanding and support among those affected by the 2017 hurricanes, including many who were severely impacted by months-long electrical outages.
What do you hope to gain from this experience?
IBTS is looking forward introducing the SolSmart program to Puerto Rico and learning how it can be a catalyst to other funding programs, helping connect municipalities with other resources and programs. Likewise, we welcome the opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of municipalities, ranging from those who are at the forefront of creating resilient, and efficient energy networks and backups for their communities, to those at most risk from future disasters.
