National Association of Regional Councils

Incorporated in 1968 by the National Association of Counties and the National League of Cities to serve volunteer organizations of neighboring local elected officials to jointly address challenges that cross jurisdictions, the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) works with regional councils, councils of governments (COGs), regional planning and development agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and other regional organizations to address a variety of community planning and development opportunities and issues. NARC offers a forum for elected officials and private and nonprofit stakeholders to come together to find ways to improve the region’s community and economic development initiatives. To support the innovation of regional communities, NARC provides research, support, and technical assistance for its members as they pursue regional planning projects such as: telemedicine connecting school nurses, hospitals, and medical facilities in underserved rural areas; transportation solutions; water and wastewater; green infrastructure; energy independence and security; greenhouse gas and air quality; developing new energy capacity; information technology and ways to connect urban and rural economies within a metropolitan area.
