SolSmart Designee of the Week: Charleston County, SC
There are over 200 cities, counties, and small towns across the nation that have achieved SolSmart designation. Today, we’ll highlight one of these designees: Charleston County, South Carolina.
As the county achieved Bronze, Silver, and then Gold designations, county staff worked to streamline solar processes and organize resources to make going solar faster, simpler, and more transparent for residents and businesses alike. Check out some program highlights that have made Charleston County the Gold designee they are today:
- Adopted the most recent International Code Council codes on solar PV;
- Installed solar on local facilities;
- Reviewed local zoning codes and identifying any restrictions to solar development; and
- Allowed solar by-right accessory use in all zones
“Our primary goal is to keep helping citizens,” said Kevin Limehouse, the county’s Operations Officer. “Charleston County is growing, and we want to make sure we can share our resources with all community members and help them with their solar needs.”
