The National Association of Counties (NACo), a SolSmart partner organization, recently held its 2024 Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. (February 10-13).  The conference brought together nearly 2,000 county officials to focus on federal policy issues that impact counties and residents from across the country. Conference highlights included strengthening intergovernmental partnerships through bipartisan meetings on Capitol Hill, a Federal Agency Expo, and even a keynote address from the President of the United States.

As a partner of the SolSmart program, NACo eagerly spread the word and worked to increase county participation in the program. County officials were introduced to SolSmart at several events during the four-day conference. Specifically, SolSmart was featured during the Resilient Counties Advisory Board Meeting (see photo at top). An all-female panel, featuring Kate Gordon, Former Senior Advisor to Energy Secretary Granholm, spoke to NACo members about the importance of local planning to ensure that communities receive the socio-economic benefits of clean energy investments made by the private sector.

NACo remains committed to supporting county-level uptake of best practices in energy planning with the goal of fortifying local economies and energy security across the United States.
