The SolSmart program is proud to host SolSmart Advisors — fully-funded, experienced staff recruited to help communities achieve designation.

Once assigned to their Host Communities, Advisors evaluated existing local government programs and processes and applied industry-leading best practices to keep the community moving toward designation. Latest News on SolSmart Advisors:

  • In July 2021, SolSmart announced the organizations that will lead the fourth round of the SolSmart Advisor program. These Advisors will specifically focus on helping underserved communities in several regions of the country adopt local solar best practices and reach SolSmart designation.
  • The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) served as an Advisor beginning in 2017, helping communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth region achieve designation. In July 2020, NCTCOG achieved SolSmart Bronze designation as a regional organization.
  • In May 2020, SolSmart announced new Advisors at the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) and the University of Virginia (UVA) to help local governments across the state make it faster, easier, and more affordable to go solar.
